Uniforms
Students are required to wear martial arts uniforms,
which can be purchased at the school. We try to have
uniforms in stock, but it is helpful to call in advance
to help ensure that we have a uniform for you. Parents
should impress upon their children that uniforms are not
play clothes.

Your
First Class
The instructor begins every class with bows and a
controlled breathing meditation. The class is then
turned over to the highest-ranked student, who leads the
class through warm-up exercises. The instructor then
returns to teach the class.
New students (white belts) first learn basic blocks and
punching, and a few kicks. They then begin to learn the
white belt “form,” which is a pattern of
movements that incorporate the basic movements. Next
they learn a series of five “1-Steps,” or
self-defense moves.
-------------------------------------
Testing
A student who has demonstrated good character and
respect, and who has attended at least 16 classes within
eight weeks, is eligible to test. The first test
consists of the basic blocks, punches, kicks, the white
belt form and the white belt 1-Steps. Subsequent tests
consist of different blocks and striking techniques
which are included in the form for that rank, kicks, the
form itself and 1-Steps for that particular belt
level.
Please note that while we expect students to attend
classes at least twice a week for eight weeks before
testing, we schedule belt tests once each month. You can
expect to test every other month. Testing dates are
marked on the calendar near the entry door, and the
instructor will also tell the class about test
registration deadlines during end-of-class
announcements. Testing fees must be paid, and a
registration form must be filled out during the test
registration period.
If you have any questions, please ask the instructor.

Advancement in Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do is represented by
the different colored belts
worn by our students. The order of belts is:
• Beginner - white, yellow and orange
• Intermediate - purple, green and blue
• Advanced - red, red and white
• (1st degree), red and black
• (2nd degree), brown, brown and white
• (1st degree), brown and black
• (2nd degree), black and white
• (black belt in training)
• Black belts and black belts with degrees
• all wear the same type of black belt.
• The black belt tests are specially-arranged
• tests that only occur a few times each year.
